My Top 10 Albums of 2014

Almost ANOTHER year gone! It's amazing how much shorter the years get as you age. ;-) So much happened for me this year. Big decisions were made, a LOT of musical growth occurred due to me finding my feet, and, of course, I had my ups and downs in the game of life. I couldn't have made it through any of those things without music along the way. In my opinion, this year saw some GREAT releases. Here's my top ten!

10: Siren by Young Summer

Since I only JUST purchased this record, I haven't had the time to REALLY listen to all of it. I love the songs and the sound of the record. Young Summer is a great emerging songwriter/artist and I can't wait to watch her growth. Plus, she liked one of my posts on Insta, so I have mad respect. She's obviously an artist that pays attention to others as well!

9: Sparks by Imogen Heap

Of course this record is on my list! It's by my favorite artist of all time! ;-) However, I was not blown away with this record. It's Imogen. It's good. It's just not cohesive at all. I knew it would be nothing like Speak For Yourself or Ellipse, but I was expecting a little more. I love it, nonetheless. Hell, I even SPLURGED and bought the deluxe box set. Real Immi fans will understand what that means!

8: Dear You by Meiko

Meiko is a fun artist! I've always adored her cutesy, singer/songwriter/pop aesthetic, but I was pleasantly surprised with this record. It's sort of sultry and a little more dark. I. Love. It.

7: Lights Out by Ingrid Michaelson

Oh, Ingrid. I love you so! Lights Out has been my FAVORITE Ingrid record to date! It's a step in the right direction and her voice really shines here! I look forward to what's next.

6: Like It Never Happened by Elizabeth & The Catapult

E&theC is EXTREMELY underrated. Being a longtime fan of Sara Bareilles, I've known about Elizabeth for awhile (they're like besties, y'all) and I loved her from the first second. Like It Never Happened is her first independent record and the song Happy Pop is a stab at record labels who only care about making a profit. It's golden!

5: Wildewoman by Lucius

Since the deluxe version of this album came out this year, I've let myself include it on this list. This is yet another artist I heard about through Sara Bareilles! I actually got to see them live when they opened for Sara on her Little Black Dress tour. The album is great. Their live performance is EVEN BETTER! They're so unique. It may sound like one voice singing in the song, but it's actually two girls. They match head to toe. It's fun!

4: Blue Dream by Orenda Fink

I've been following Orenda Fink for as long as I've been following Azure Ray. Honestly, I wasn't blown away with her solo work until Blue Dream! PHENOMENAL ALBUM! It was inspired by the loss of her dog. Some may say that's a bit weird, but I think it's beautiful that she could draw so much inspiration from that. I've had this album on repeat for weeks. I'm in love!

3: Elements by Kina Grannis

Kina Grannis kicks SO MUCH ASS! If you can gain a following through YouTube, I don't care who you are, I applaud you. But, Kina isn't like many people on YouTube. She's a true artist and Elements is her masterpiece! Every song is relatable. I literally blasted the record on repeat for about 6 months. Sadly, I won't be able to see her on tour, but I'll find a way to see her one day!

2: 1989 by Taylor Swift

This was my most anticipated TSwift album. It's also my favorite! Taylor has gracefully transitioned  from Country to POP. THIS is what she was meant for. I don't care what your opinion of her is. She's talented. You have to admit that. Hell, if Imogen Heap says so, it has to be true, right? ;-) Also, the song she wrote with Imogen (Clean) is TO DIE FOR!

1: Goddess by BANKS

BANKS IS THE QUEEN OF MY LIFE! Finding her was completely serendipitous and I'm SO GLAD I did! She's become one of my favorite artists of all time. Her writing is phenomenal and extremely unique. I've never heard another artist like her and I don't think I will! I'm so okay with that!
